Champions League Matchday 2: England's Five, and the Bill That Comes Next
Matchday 1 of the 2026/27 Champions League league phase is in the books, and it could hardly have gone better for England. Arsenal won at Napoli, Manchester City won at Porto, Liverpool beat Atletico Madrid at Anfield, Aston Villa won at Club Brugge, and Manchester United put four past Sabah FK. Five clubs, five wins, no draws to protect and no defeats to explain away.
We covered those games one match at a time; this is the other view. The five English clubs in one table, what Matchday 2 - October 13 and 14, straight after the international break - asks of each of them, and what to buy if you want the shirt before the bandwagon fills. For the wider field, our season preview and breakout-player guide still hold.
Five Clubs, One Table, Zero Defeats
England is the only association that entered more than one club and saw all of them win. Of the 18 Matchday 1 fixtures, England's five took five - and no other multi-club league managed it: Spain went 3-5, Italy 1-4, Germany 3-4. Outside England, the only association whose clubs all won is Greece - and Greece has exactly one team in the competition, AEK Athens, who beat LASK 1-0.
One wider note for context: England's three Europa League clubs also opened their campaigns with wins - one of them a first European victory in 53 years. Back in the Champions League, here is where the five stand.

The Champions Arrive at the Etihad on October 14
Manchester City vs Paris Saint-Germain is the headline fixture of the round - the only Matchday 2 game featuring the defending champions. City arrive off the most quietly dominant away performance of Matchday 1: a 2-0 win at Porto that remains the round's only away victory by more than one goal, with Erling Haaland scoring twice, once either side of the 90th minute.
PSG, for their part, opened with a 6-1 dismissal of Slovan Bratislava and a Ferran Torres hat-trick, so this is two perfect records colliding rather than a favourite meeting a straggler. Our Manchester City section covers the home shirt they will wear for it.
Two Away Nights, Two Different Problems
Liverpool came from behind to beat Atletico 2-1 at Anfield thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, and now travel to LASK on the Wednesday - on paper the gentlest of the five assignments, and the sort of trip that has tripped English clubs before. Our Liverpool section has both the red home shirt and the white on-field away version.
Manchester United's 4-0 win over Sabah was their first Champions League campaign in three years off to a perfect start, but Wednesday-at-Atletico is a different weight class entirely. The United section is our deepest club page - 511 styles - and the cream third shirt is the one that travels.
Villa Won in Brugge and Nobody Is Talking About It
Aston Villa's 3-2 win at Club Brugge was the least-discussed of the five results, which suits Unai Emery's side fine. This is a club that lifted a European trophy in May - the fifth of Emery's career - and Matchday 1 made it two European wins from two away trips this season. Fenerbahce at home on October 14 is the first Villa Park European night of the league phase; the Villa section runs the claret home shirt they will wear for it.
1,203 Jerseys: What We Would Actually Buy
Across the five clubs we stock 1,203 different 2026/27 jerseys - from United's 511 to Villa's 81 - spanning replica, on-field authentic and third kits, at $38.90 to $85.99. A few notes from the shelf: Arsenal's away range is the widest single section we carry (285 styles, largely navy and gold this season); City's sky-blue home shirt is the cheapest way into a likely title run; and Villa's blue third is the sleeper pick of the five. The full soccer section covers every other club in the competition.
Where We Would Spend Our Money First
Our pick of the week: Manchester United's cream third shirt. It is the kit United actually wear on their European travels, it is distinctive in a sea of red home shirts, and at $45.90 it sits in the middle of the range while the section behind it (511 styles) is the deepest we stock. If you want the safer bet instead, City's home shirt at $38.90 is the value play - the champions are coming to the Etihad on October 14, and the host is unbeaten in Europe this season.
