Premier League Matchweek 5: The Last Round Before the Break

Matchweek 5 is the last round of Premier League football before the September-October international break, which means the table it leaves behind is the one everybody stares at for a fortnight.

Arsenal and Manchester City were the only two clubs with a 100 per cent record. Promoted Hull City were still unbeaten. Tottenham Hotspur had not scored a single league goal in four matches. Here is what was at stake across the ten fixtures of 18-20 September - and the 2026/27 home shirts behind each story.

12points each for Arsenal and Man City
4wins from four for those two clubs
0league goals scored by Tottenham

The table after four games

Four rounds in, and the shape of the season is already odd. Two clubs have maximum points, two more are unbeaten without a defeat between them, and one of last season's top-four sides has yet to score.

  • Arsenal - 12 points, eight goals scored and one conceded. The defending champions are the only side with a perfect record.
  • Manchester City - 12 points, level on wins with Arsenal and behind only on goal difference.
  • Leeds United and Hull City - eight points each, both unbeaten.
  • Tottenham Hotspur - two points, and no league goals in four matches.
  • Coventry City - no points, no goals scored, ten conceded.

Arsenal: perfect until Brighton

The champions have conceded once in four league games. Their 2-0 win over Sunderland in Matchweek 4 was the fourth time in four matches they have taken all three points, and it kept them top on goal difference ahead of Manchester City.

Arsenal finished last season as champions. They had started this one as the only club in the division with a 100 per cent record, and they opened Matchweek 5 away at Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

Manchester City won the derby with ten men

The most instructive 90 minutes of the season so far came at Old Trafford on 13 September. City had Phil Foden sent off in the 23rd minute for kicking out at Bruno Fernandes, spent the rest of the match a man down, and still won 1-0 through an Erling Haaland goal that was flagged offside and then awarded after a lengthy VAR review.

City's goalkeeper made a stoppage-time save to protect the result. It was Enzo Maresca's first Manchester derby as City manager, and it left his side level on points with Arsenal at the top and United in 13th.

Hull City: the promoted side that started fast

Hull City came up this season and had not lost. Two wins and two draws from four matches had them on eight points and inside the top four, level with Leeds United. They held Chelsea to a 2-2 draw in Matchweek 4.

Coventry City, the other promoted club, had the opposite introduction: four defeats and a goal difference of minus ten.

Tottenham have not scored in four matches

Spurs have two points from four games and had scored zero league goals. Their 0-0 draw with Everton in Matchweek 4 was the second goalless draw of their season, and they sat 17th. It was the single loudest statistic in the division.

Matchweek 5: the full fixture list

Ten matches across three days. All kick-off times are British Summer Time.

  • Friday 18 September - Brentford v Chelsea, 20:00.
  • Saturday 19 September - Tottenham v Aston Villa, 12:30; Brighton v Arsenal, 15:00; Everton v Ipswich Town, 15:00; Newcastle v Hull City, 15:00; Nottingham Forest v Coventry City, 17:30.
  • Sunday 20 September - Bournemouth v Liverpool, 14:00; Leeds v Crystal Palace, 14:00; Manchester City v Sunderland, 14:00; Fulham v Manchester United, 16:30.

Then the league stops. The international window runs from 21 September to 6 October, so the next Premier League football after Sunday is more than a fortnight away.

How to shop a Premier League shirt in 2026/27

Three things worth knowing before the cards below. First, every shirt listed is the 2026/27 home kit, not a retro or a training top. Second, the price gap between a stadium replica and an on-field authentic is real money - the replica tier is the one most supporters buy. Third, not every club in Matchweek 5 is represented: our inventory is deepest at the eight clubs below, and three of Matchweek 5's home sides are not stocked at all.
