The Milwaukee Brewers are National League champions for the first time. Milwaukee swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in four games — 2-1 and 7-4 at American Family Field, then 6-2 and 6-4 at Dodger Stadium — and the Brewers go to the World Series for the first time since 1982. The Dodgers, chasing a third straight title, led in all four games and lost all four.

A year ago Los Angeles ended Milwaukee’s season with a four-game sweep in this round, outscoring the Brewers 15-4. This time the Brewers did the sweeping, and they did it with the pitcher who led the major leagues in ERA, strikeouts, WHIP and opponents’ batting average, a bullpen that closed out all four wins, and the series MVP, first baseman Jake Bauers. Milwaukee opens the World Series at home on Friday 23 October with home-field advantage and meets the winner of the Rays–Guardians American League Championship Series, which Cleveland leads 2-1.

The short version
  • Series: Milwaukee won the National League Championship Series 4-0, sweeping the Dodgers. The Brewers are National League champions for the first time and open the World Series at home on Friday 23 October against the American League winner.
  • Game 4: Garrett Mitchell’s go-ahead homer in the sixth and David Hamilton’s two-out shot in the ninth finished a 6-4 win at Dodger Stadium on Thursday 15 October. Milwaukee trailed 4-0 after two innings and became the first club to sweep a best-of-seven postseason series in which it trailed in every game. Aaron Ashby worked three scoreless innings for the save.
  • MVP: Jake Bauers, who went 4 for 14 with a home run and six RBIs, including the two-run double in Game 4 that started the comeback and the 12-pitch walk that set up the Game 2 winner.
  • How they got here: Milwaukee beat San Diego 3-1 in the Division Series; the Dodgers beat Atlanta 3-1.
  • Home field: the Brewers host Games 1, 2, 6 and 7. The Dodgers host Games 3, 4 and 5 at Dodger Stadium.
  • Last year: the Dodgers swept the Brewers in four games in the 2025 NLCS, outscoring them 15-4. Milwaukee’s only World Series appearance came in 1982.

National League Championship Series games are on FOX or FS1, and all times below are Eastern. The series uses the 2-3-2 format, which means the Brewers — the National League’s top seed — host the first two games and then, if needed, Games 6 and 7 at American Family Field. The asterisked games are played only if the series is still alive; Milwaukee clinched in four, so Games 5, 6 and 7 were not played. That is why Game 2 starts at 5 p.m. ET on 12 October: the American League Championship Series opens at Tropicana Field the same night at 8 p.m. ET.

Game 1 result: Milwaukee beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 at American Family Field on Sunday 11 October 2026 to take a 1-0 lead in the National League Championship Series. Brice Turang hit a solo home run off Tarik Skubal in the fourth inning, rookie Luis Lara singled in Garrett Mitchell in the fifth for the go-ahead run after Cooper Pratt’s sacrifice bunt, and four Milwaukee relievers threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings. Trevor Megill saved it, stranding the tying run in the ninth. Jacob Misiorowski allowed one run in 4 1/3 innings, and the Brewers became the first club to keep Skubal from completing six innings in his eight career postseason starts.

Game 2 result: Milwaukee beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-4 at American Family Field on Monday 12 October 2026 to take a 2-0 lead in the National League Championship Series. William Contreras went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, tying the game at 4-4 with a 436-foot home run off Kris Bubic in the fifth inning and singling home the go-ahead run in the sixth after Freddie Freeman could not handle Brock Stewart’s pickoff throw. Brice Turang and Jake Bauers added RBI singles in the eighth. Four Milwaukee relievers — Dustin May, JoJo Romero, Abner Uribe and Aaron Ashby — retired the last 15 Dodgers in order, five perfect innings. Yoshinobu Yamamoto lasted 2 2/3 innings, the shortest start of his postseason career, and Los Angeles managed three hits.

Game 3 result: Milwaukee beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Wednesday 14 October 2026 to take a 3-0 lead in the National League Championship Series. Jake Bauers hit a go-ahead home run off Blake Snell to end an 11-pitch at-bat and Garrett Mitchell also homered; Milwaukee scored in three separate innings and the bullpen again finished it without allowing a run.

Game 4 result: Milwaukee beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Thursday 15 October 2026 to complete a 4-0 sweep and win the National League pennant. Shohei Ohtani’s three-run homer capped a four-run second inning that put Los Angeles 4-0 up, and the Brewers answered with two in the fourth on Bauers’ two-run double, one in the fifth on David Hamilton’s single, the tying run on a bases-loaded walk to Bauers, and Mitchell’s go-ahead 409-foot drive off Tanner Scott in the sixth. Hamilton added a two-out solo shot in the ninth and Aaron Ashby pitched the final three innings for the save. Milwaukee is the first club to win a postseason series after being swept by the same opponent the previous October, and the first to sweep a best-of-seven series in which it trailed in every game.

The path here

How both clubs got here

Brewers: 103 wins, then a four-game test with San Diego

Milwaukee finished the regular season with 103 wins, the best record in baseball, and the No. 1 seed that comes with it. The Division Series took four games. The Brewers won Game 1 3-2 at American Family Field, with Jackson Chourio tying it on a 420-foot home run that was the hardest-hit ball of his career and a franchise postseason record, and William Contreras winning it in the seventh. Game 2 produced the strangest finish of the round: San Diego’s Ty France hit a fly ball that struck a railing on the stadium roof and stayed in play under the ground rules, turning a possible go-ahead homer into an out, and Chourio then won it 4-3 with a two-run walk-off single. The Padres took Game 3 4-3 at Petco Park, and Milwaukee closed the series with a 3-1 win in Game 4 on 7 October, Chourio driving in the go-ahead run again.

Dodgers: the Braves in four, and barely a run allowed late

Los Angeles won its Division Series three games to one. The Dodgers took Game 1 5-3 at home on three home runs, lost Game 2 3-2, then won Game 3 3-1 at Truist Park behind Yoshinobu Yamamoto — seven innings, one run and 10 strikeouts — and closed it out 4-1 in Game 4 on 7 October. Across the final two games of that series, the Braves scored twice. Tarik Skubal, acquired from Detroit at the trade deadline, opened the series with six innings and one run allowed.

The 2025 rematch

This is the same matchup as last October, and the Brewers have not forgotten it. The Dodgers swept Milwaukee in four games in the 2025 NL Championship Series, outscoring the Brewers 15-4 while Milwaukee hit .384 as a team in OPS terms. It was the third time in eight seasons that Los Angeles ended Milwaukee’s season. The Brewers have not reached the World Series since 1982, when they were still an American League club and lost to the Cardinals in seven games.

What to watch

What to watch

How the Brewers beat Skubal in Game 1

Skubal won the last two American League Cy Young Awards and arrived with a 1.97 ERA in seven career postseason starts, never having worked fewer than six innings. Milwaukee ended that run: he threw 81 pitches over five innings, allowed five hits and two earned runs, struck out seven and took the loss. His 2026 regular season: a 2.72 ERA in 26 starts, 2.61 of it after the trade to Los Angeles, and that came around 44 days lost to elbow surgery in the summer.

Jacob Misiorowski, 24, is the reason Milwaukee is here with home field. He finished the regular season with the best ERA in the majors (1.80), the most strikeouts (252), the best WHIP (0.80) and the lowest opponents’ average (.157). His four-seam fastball topped out at 104.8 mph and averaged 101.2 mph in the Division Series against San Diego. In Game 1 he gave Milwaukee 4 1/3 innings on 94 pitches, allowing one run on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts, and the bullpen covered the final 4 2/3 innings without allowing a run.

Which Shohei Ohtani shows up

Ohtani has been managing injuries through the second half and the numbers show it: 2-for-13 with no extra-base hits and four strikeouts in the Division Series, and he was moved to fifth in the order for the first time since he joined the Dodgers. He hit three home runs and struck out 10 as a pitcher in last year’s NLCS against this same Milwaukee club, so the range of outcomes is wide. Catcher Will Smith also had a quiet Division Series at 1-for-16 with seven strikeouts, and Los Angeles still won in four games. In Game 1 Ohtani went 1-for-3 with a walk and scored the Dodgers’ only run, on Andy Pages’s single in the second inning.

Milwaukee’s depth behind the ace

The Brewers are not a one-pitcher club. Logan Henderson has a 2.33 ERA through his first 23 major-league starts, Robert Gasser has a 1.73 ERA over his past seven appearances including the postseason, and Milwaukee has three relief arms capable of cutting games down to six or seven innings. The lineup has more bite than a year ago too: Jackson Chourio has been the club’s October heartbeat, Brice Turang remains an elite defender at second base, and Christian Yelich and William Contreras came into this series swinging.

What the winner gets

The World Series opens on Friday 23 October with Games 1 and 2 at the National League park.
